While exploring the big picture, the new bi-weekly podcast will also serve to expand awareness of the importance of cybersecurity in business.

“We bridge the knowledge and capability gap that exists between technology, strategy, users and industry, and deliver information and updates that are useful to decision-makers who shape cybersecurity in their organizations,” Phil Tarrant, director – defense and security at Momentum Media and co-host of Cyber Security Uncut, said.

Mr Tarrant will join Major General (retd) Dr Marcus Thompson AM, PhD, former head of the Ministry of Defence’s Information Warfare Unit and current director of Cyber Compass, an independent cyber security consultancy.

Celebrating the launch of the podcast, Major General (retd) Thompson echoed Mr Tarrant’s sentiments, adding that the need to increase awareness and promote positive cyber attitudes and behaviors is critical for all Australian organisations.

“There is a growing consensus across organizations regarding cybersecurity responsibilities and accountabilities, but much work remains. I see so many CEOs, C-suite executives and senior executives who know cybersecurity is important and want to invest in it, but they don’t really know where to start,” he said.

“That’s why this podcast is so important. We want to help these smart professionals think through their cybersecurity challenge.”

According to Mr Tarrant, the podcast will also help listeners discover how business, government and defense forces are tackling the growing threat of cyber attacks as Australia moves into a digital future.

“In an increasingly complex and hostile climate, the battleground is set around cybersecurity. Cyber Security Uncut brings you the key influencers, their stories and the emerging technologies that are contributing to Australia’s resilience, security and growth,” he said.

“The podcast will connect a wide range of stakeholders, including government, Australian Defense Force leaders, prime contractors, technology innovators and policy figures to support the imperative to expand Australia’s cyber capabilities.”

The podcast skyrocketed Apple’s podcast rankings to number 12 in the government category at launch, which Mr Tarrant said showed the content and focus had hit the mark – particularly with corporate Australia and SMEs.

“We’re only one episode in, but it quickly became clear that Marcus’ balance of expertise, experience and broad sector knowledge matched Momentum’s appreciation of the importance of cybersecurity and democratizing the discussion for all interested listeners – particularly company directors and executives to the C-suite — it resonates,” Mr. Tarrant said.

“I look forward to working with Marcus on future episodes as we expand our focus to host collaborative discussions with industry leaders and technology innovators.”

Cyber Security Uncut follows the recent launch of Momentum Media’s Cyber Security Connect platform, coupled with the business’ continued focus on supporting national resilience and security through its Defense Connect platform.
